Mrs Nicola Cutthill and Miss Hetal Patel are the teachers in class 1.
Mrs Cutthill is responsible for the 'Creative Arts' throughout the school, whilst Miss Patel is responsible for ICT. Transition into our school from pre school provision, is a shared responsibilty as is liaising with Stepping Stones Pre School which is on the school site. Mrs Cuthill has completed the National Drama for Learninmg and Creativity Course and uses it as a teaching and learning tool in her classroom. Miss Patel is a newly qualified teacher. The children and the school are enjoying the quality of education she is providing. Both teachers in class 1 are supported by Mrs Rosemarie Warren. Mrs Warren holds a Teaching Assistant NVQ level 3 qualification and takes a shared responsibility for First Aid.
The class comprises reception and year 1 children. The children have lots of fun learning in the classroom and the adjacent outdoor area. Children in YR are given lots of opportunities to encourage: communication language and literacy; knowledge and understanding of the world; personal, social and emotional education and number. Y1 children, once they have completed the ares of learning from the Foundation Stage begin to learn from the programmes of study from National Curriculum.
The school places an emphasis on books for pleasure and reading. Each week the children will have a big book to enjoy and learn from. Additonally, they will have an individual reading book, a group reading book and they will have story time at the end of the day. The children learn to read and write by having a high quality daily phonics session and as many supported individual reads as can be fitted into the week. Parents and grandparents are a great help for this and are welcomed into the class. The school uses high quality books especially selected from our nearby bookshop rather than a reading scheme. The teaching of reading in the school is highly successful.
